ABOUT US - BLUE.png

CrossFit Okoboji is Okoboji's ONLY CrossFit-Affiliated training facility. Our 3,000-square-foot facility is equipped with a 24' pull-up rig and squat racks, 1000s of pounds of bumper plates, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, rowers, plyo boxes and various other equipment along with a restroom, a lobby and a shower.

We offer a unique strength and conditioning program using the CrossFit methodology. CrossFit workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity.

But what does that mean? It means our workouts are always different [like every day of life]; they involve full-body movements [like those found in everyday life] and we perform these movements at high intensity [but always with proper technique and form; safety is #1!].

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “SCALE” A WORKOUT?

“Scalability” is a word that you will hear frequently here at CrossFit Okoboji. During each class, everyone does the same workout, but that workout will always have several scalable [or modified] options. This makes it possible for all of us – with our different body types, personal goals and levels of ability – to work alongside one another safely. We motivate one another, cheer on one another and sometimes participate in some healthy competition. But, ultimately, every workout is yours alone. Your workout = your pace.

WHAT IS A “BOX?”

We know... It sounds silly... But, a “box” is just an independently-owned CrossFit-Affiliated gym where you will find all the equipment you need to get in the best shape of your life, while getting hands-on training from knowledgeable CrossFit trainers. Each box has all the equipment necessary for various WODs without the bells, whistles and bicep curls of a regular gym. We guarantee you have never tried anything like this!

WHAT IS AN “AFFILIATE?”

An affiliate is a box that is legally affiliated with the CrossFit brand. In order to become an affiliate, the box owner must be a CrossFit Trainer Certificate holder. Before you decide to join a CrossFit box, make certain that a box is a “true” affiliate, ensuring the trainers have completed the necessary levels of training. Unfortunately, not every place that says “CrossFit” is a true affiliate and sadly, many “trainers” are not certified.

ARE THE WORKOUTS PERFORMED IN GROUPS?

Yes! The training offered by CrossFit Okoboji is performed in a group setting, at pre-determined times throughout the day. Each CrossFit class offered on a particular day conducts the same Workout of the Day.  If you miss a morning class, you can pick up an evening class without rockin' the boat. Our classes can be modified according to the needs, strengths and weaknesses of each member. Think of CrossFit as personal training in a group atmosphere.

HOW LONG ARE THE WORKOUTS? HOW LONG IS CLASS?

Workouts are typically short – 30 minutes or less – and intense - demanding all-out physical exertion. They combine movements and are mixed into numerous combinations to form the workout. Each hour long class consists of a warm up, trainer-led skill or strength work, the workout and cool down/mobility.

WHY DO YOU VARY THE WORKOUTS?

CrossFit’s strength and conditioning program is defined as “constantly varied, functional movement at high intensity” with the goal of improving overall fitness. The more variety and creativity that are placed into the workouts - the more your body will develop, grow stronger and avoid hitting a plateau. Variety in exercises, sets, reps, weight, rounds, etc. is the key to developing every component of physical fitness.

WHAT ARE “FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS?”

Functional movements are universal motor patterns that mimic human movement in every day life. Functional movements are squats, deadlifts, pushes, pulls, lunges or rotational movements. These movements will improve the quality of life of everyone who performs them and will teach people how to move their bodies more efficiently and effectively in all of life’s voyages. From elite athletes looking to improve their performance in a particular sport to a grandmother seeking to gain strength to pick up her grandkids – functional training is the answer to improving the overall health and well being of everyone, no matter what level of fitness.
